Electrical measurement of the spin Hall effect isotropy in ferromagnets with strong spin-orbit interactions

چکیده

The spin-dependent transport properties of paramagnetic metals are roughly invariant under rotation. By contrast, in ferromagnetic materials, the magnetization breaks rotational symmetry, and, thus, spin Hall effect is expected to become anisotropic. Here, using a specific design lateral valves, we measure electrically anisotropy NiCu and NiPd. We show that vector does not lead sizable charge interconversion parameters materials with spin-orbit coupling comparable exchange interaction.

Reciprocal spin Hall effects in conductors with strong spin-orbit coupling: a review.

Spin Hall effect and its inverse provide essential means to convert charge to spin currents and vice versa, which serve as a primary function for spintronic phenomena such as the spin-torque ferromagnetic resonance and the spin Seebeck effect. These effects can oscillate magnetization or detect a thermally generated spin splitting in the chemical potential. Importantly this conversion process o...

Spin-Hall effect in two-dimensional electron systems with Rashba spin-orbit coupling and disorder.

Using the four-terminal Landauer-Bu ttiker formula and Green's function approach, we calculate numerically the spin-Hall conductance in a two-dimensional junction system with the Rashba spin-orbit (SO) coupling and disorder. We find that the spin-Hall conductance can be much greater or smaller than the universal value e/8pi, depending on the magnitude of the SO coupling, the electron Fermi ener...

Intrinsic spin Hall effect in the presence of extrinsic spin-orbit scattering

Intrinsic and extrinsic spin Hall effects are considered together on an equal theoretical footing for the Rashba spin-orbit coupling in two-dimensional 2D electron and hole systems, using the diagrammatic method for calculating the spin Hall conductivity. Our analytic theory for the 2D holes shows the expected lowest-order additive result for the spin Hall conductivity. But, the 2D electrons ma...

Experimental discovery of the spin-Hall effect in Rashba spin-orbit coupled semiconductor systems

We report the experimental observation of the spin-Hall effect in a two-dimensional (2D) hole system with Rashba spin-orbit coupling. The 2D hole layer is a part of a p-n junction light-emitting diode with a specially designed vertical and planar geometry which allows an angle-resolved polarization detection at opposite edges of the 2D hole system. In equilibrium the angular momenta of the Rash...
